WNIC has a long history of offering specialized insurance solutions to educators.

1911 Washington Life and Accident Insurance Company of Chicago established as an assessment insurance organization
1923 Reorganizes, exits the assessment insurance business and becomes incorporated as Washington Fidelity National Insurance Co.
1930 Enters the group accident and health insurance market, offering loss-of-time insurance for educators
1931 Changes name to Washington National Insurance Company (WNIC)
1966 Operates in every state except New York, Alaska and Hawaii
1968 Forms Washington National Corp. as a holding company to allow WNIC to diversify into variable annuities
1995 More than 1,000 full-time employees at Washington National Corp.; 54,000 brokers, 130 field-marketing organizations at WNIC
1997 Acquired by Conseco, Inc.
2000 WNIC, with a range of insurance products, reaches $214 million in capital, surplus, investment reserves; $1 billion in investments
2006 Educators’ Choice series of tax-sheltered annuities introduced by Washington National
